30 January 2011 @ January 30, 2011
Actually prepared mini tokens for christmas for TG... but couldnt meet up with them. (T_T) Guess, it'll still be kept in my room and admired by myself.. hahah.
Right, back to the main topic. GUESS WHAT?! Geraldine finally got herself a JOB! woohoooo~ After interview on Tuesday, my BGC consultant called my in the afternoon to ask me over to sign the job contract already.. :D
Before I delve into updates about work, I wanna thank the following ppl who gave me support during my job hunt.
Beebee and meiling for job opportunities manda and shan as job advisors serene for the one day job and distressing :D
And my job consultants from various agencies. haha
I got an admin job @ NLB's warehouse which is a 15 min walk from Singapore EXPO MRT. Fortunately for me, my dad's gona drive me to and fro from work everyday :D Here's some updates about my job so far and some juicy news i heard.
Firstly, this is a picture of how the warehouse of my department looks like. We're the old information keepers. So a lot of old books, magazines, newsletters, newspapers and company's reports and stored here. See the shelves... it's something like you see at the IKEA warehouse. Actually, I thought I was only as tall as the 3rd shelf from the bottom, but after I saw the labels of the years, I think I'm only as tall as the 5th shelf. But it's still very threatening to see boxes of articles towering above you. We have to use this vehicle to travel all the way up to get a box from the top shelves.
Check out one of the boxes i saw when i was lazying around during my 1 hr's lunch break. It says, "Lucky Star Guide to $10,000 Word Puzzle" Totally, (-.-), there's even such an article, THAT IS WORTH TO BE RECORDED AND STORED? For the next few weeks, i will venture deeper into the warehouse to look for more nonsensical titles to share k? hahaha
My job now, is to sort out business reports and information according to their categories, year, month, and up to their very date that they are published. Then later, I am count the number of pieces (that usually goes to more than 50 for a single category that has been sorted according to its year) and then tie them up nicely and pack into boxes that are then shelved. Imagine the WHOLE year of reports combined from a company... u need 1.5 box to pack them up.
I spend the WHOLE 6 hrs with my college doing Phillips' company reports, and that was only from 1992-1999. Then I spent the whole 7 hours doing Sasson's reports from 1995-1998. And they were still incomplete. YOU KNOW WHY?
cos there were like 10 boxes of them and they were not sort according to anything @ all. It's rojak. So, we had to dig everything out and check piece by piece for the year. Sometimes, no i should say, many times, human error occurs. We missed out a few pieces and found them hidden in lather years reports.
So, we had to untie the previous year reports that were arranged nicely, slot them into the respective dates, count them again, label, then tie back again...etc etc.
The frustration comes when you're already starting on the 3rd yr when many reports about the 1st yr appears.
Then, there's also a problem about getting paper cuts. Well, as compared to the frustration, it's less serious.
My supervisor told me that as soon as i finish Sasson's reports he'll transfer me to the computer room to do listing of that company's reports. okay, so it'll be after the CNY, definitely. Sasson has 1976-2002. GREAT. And it takes 2 huge boxes to fill up 1 year. I can wait long long. But it's fun sorting out papers though. Just don't like to see missing pages and I'll go "WELL DONE, WE HAVE MISSING REPORTS, YAY!"
Let's talk about my colleges. They're all guys, to be exact, 3 other guys. They said they were all scammed by BGC, the agency. They were offered admin jobs, then they came here and ended up as coolies working @ the warehouse, sad for them. LOL. But the girls were more fortune, (except me,) they either did not need to go to the warehouse AT ALL, or just stayed for 1 day. But I haven been officially, or actually, met the girls yet. However, I seen a handful of MJC faces here at the various departments.
So why do I need to be in there for weeks? Hmmmm
Well, my colleges, one was waiting for A lvls too, 1 was working for IT industry when he got sick for the job and wanted to try something else for the time being, he's 28, and another one, who's around 50, i dont really know much about him other than he being a slacker.
You wanna know how GOOD he is @ being a slacker? Well, he sets his handphone daily alarms 5 mins BEFORE: work, which is @ 8.30am --> but he never starts work on time, he just sits there or walk around the warehouse 1st tea break, @ 10 - 10.15am --> he will make sure he makes FULL use of the time OUT of the warehouse lunch @ 12.30 - 1.30pm --> never comes back exactly after 1 hr... 2nd tea break, @ 3 - 3.15pm --> again... And the most IMPORTANT OF ALL knock off time, @ 5.30pm --> by 5pm, he'll stop work and start walking around the warehouse looking for articles to read. -.-
SLACKER!!! Cus, during our tea breaks one of my college doesn't leave at all, he continues work. The other one would be back within 5 min, really just to sip a cup of coffee or tea. Then for me, i'll go to the toilet and come back, or eat my fruits and come back before the 15min ends. HE''SSS SUCH A SLACKER. The rest of us will always start work immediately when clock strikes 8.30am or even before. And we'll stop work around 5.20pm, when we finished what we aimed for or what we had on our hands.
Well, that's life, there'll always be a slacker, or a bimbo/bitch, or a complain king, or a workaholic, or a loud-one, in your working environment.
But, in the overall, it's not a stressful environment here. I hope it'll be the same when i get transferred to the listing department. *hopes*
the good thing is that NLB holds staff events. My supervisor said that in Mid Feb, there may be a free trip to Universal Studios, wow. But he said new comers, me, may not get the privilege to go, cos they already booked the tickets. Unless some ppl backs out, then I'll be able to go. Well, I dont really care anyways, I dont think i can take the roller coaster rides, i'll puke. And I dont think I'll have fun without having my close friends around enjoying the rides and showcases with me. :(
Friday, my supervisor reminded me about Super Junior's concert. -geraldine gets stabbed- We were talking about music genres as we're playing music during work. Then supervisor came and he asked about my music preference, he wanted to check if the generation gap between us was A LOT. hahah, then he said, " DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE THE SUPER JUNIOR TYPE."
LOL, then i said, "why?! I'm not a fan but i like them." hahaha, then he went," who u like, I only know the leader, shindong, hankyung and the small small cute cute one." =.= what small small cute cute one. then i just ignored him as he continued babbling about his liking towards Girls Generation and walked off.
I managed to forget about super junior's concert during my job hunt, 3 weeks ago and he reminded me... urgghhhh! ok, so far, that's about work.
OH ONE MORE THING. the food @ the nearest canteen, sucks. THANKS! D:
Right, after the 1st day of work, I went to meet wushu ppl for dinner. Tell u, dinner was *vomit*. I feel totally felt out, esp when i was sat beside a malay senior whom i'm totally not familiar with and she always ignores me, so i hate her a bit, then opposite me was this... urgh! -.- i dont wanna mention the name. I'll upload a photo then u interprete. I was seated @ the corner, then another senior came to save the day, (or not) he squeezed with the person opposite me and started talking...
this photo was taken by the malay senior so she wasn't in it. Well, no offense, there were some misunderstandings or should i say a little/some arguments we had, and it's over, but it's just AWKWARD. esp that we just avoid eye contact. =.=
nvm, wushu ppl dont visit my blog, I'm INVISIBLE, haiz, tot i could bond back alittle but not @ all~ shall not go ever again. :[
Would this ever happen to my Chinese Drama clique? JY, Zekai, rongze, zhiheng. I think so too :( cos zekai's lazy bum, rongze.. he belongs to taiwan.. ,zhiheng, he'll go army later, but soon, and not that close to him anyways :P, then jiayun.. haiz. u're just too far away from me. hahahahaa
Right.... Let's talk about friday. It was my dad's bday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! I guess my dad managed to figure out that I had a blog, but he doesn't visit it. HHEHEHE. HI DAD, if u happen to see this. And i spied that he was browsing some facebook pages... gosh, i gotta start to watch what i say on facebook. uhhhh...
But before that, I went to see 3sa chew @ her bra area @ the Robinsons Sale. :D she looked NEAT in her short hair. :) and seems to be enjoyin her life as retail. I guess IF i make it to Uni, i'll try to persuade my mum into letting me in short term retail, like few days for 1 week events. :D OFCOURSE, it has gotta be either tampines mall, tampines one or century Square. :)
Then yesterday, I went to NTU talk in the afternoon with shuwen and zing, then the rest of my JC clique pangseh-ed us.. *sob sob*, but we're fine with the small small small trio :D
Got another 'attack' from the HUGE SUPER JUNIOR SHOW POSTER outside the music store. -sigh- The poster was not nice (no, I'm not being jealous, but seriously not nice!) I like them better in their MV. And yet girls were gathering around it and taking photos -.- I dont understand.
Alright, back to the NTU seminar. Met A LOT of familiar faces. Ngee Ann ppl. The 2 Jansens, jessie, and many many more which I couldn't call out their names. Saw theresa again, but the rest of TG? eh, manda and gang, where were u all? You all went for morning one???
Went for Communication Studies talk (like duh, it's a geraldine-must!) , then went for accounting and HSS --> humanities and social science. Quite cool, but communicationsssssss it'ssssssss myyyy favvvvvvooouuuurrrriiiiitttteeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
HEHEHE :D
Then we went to Bugis and browsed a couple of picture books @ the National Library to kill time and visit our dear liBRArian faifai!!! I shall spare him from having his photo uploaded here.. hahhaha
Then, we went for dinner @ phil's steakhouse near Bugis Junction. Zing showed me that it was opposite Pornsak's Restaurant. and i just went, "orh, where?"
It was worth it. The food there tastes as good as Swensens and Manhattan but it's still cheaper and more filling :)
Too bad that we forgot to take photos :\
Oh well, then met up with fairul, who ended his work @ 9pm, to head home. And that was how yesterday, friday and thursday was spent.
I've decided that think regardless of whether i'm going to University or Poly in about 1 mth's time. My first choice would always be Communications. I will pursue my dream :) gdluck GEERRAALLDDDDIINE BAI!
What are your dreams?? dreams are great motivation and makes u think on the positive side. :D so everyone let's work hard towards our dream!!!!!!
OK. song intro. PRICE TAG. :D I posted the live version so B.O.B, the one who rapped, 'ain't nothing on you~..... beautiful girl' , wasn't in it. There's only the accompaniment. Meaningful lyrics that reflect the image of society now. Listen.
Seems like everybody's got a price, I wonder how they sleep at night. When the tale comes first, And the truth comes second, Just stop, for a minute and Smile
Why is everybody so serious! Acting so damn mysterious You got your shades on your eyes And your heels so high That you can't even have a good time.
[Pre-chorus] Everybody look to their left (yeah) Everybody look to their right (ha) Can you feel that (yeah) Well pay them with love tonight...
[Chorus]
It's not about the money, money, money We don't need your money, money, money We just wanna make the world dance, Forget about the Price Tag
Ain't about the (ha) Cha-Ching Cha-Ching. Aint about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling Wanna make the world dance, Forget about the Price Tag.
[Jessie J - Verse 2] We need to take it back in time, When music made us all UNITE! And it wasn't low blows and video Hoes, Am I the only one gettin'... tired?
Why is everybody so obsessed? Money can't buy us happiness Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feelin All right.
[Pre-chorus] Everybody look to their left (yeah) Everybody look to their right (ha) Can you feel that (yeah) Well pay them with love tonight...
[Chorus]
[B.o.B] Yeah yeah well, keep the price tag and take the cash back just give me six streams and a half stack and you can keep the cars leave me the garage and all I.. yes all I need are keys and guitars and guess what, in 30 seconds I'm leaving to Mars yes we leaving across these undefeatable odds its like this man, you can't put a price on the life we do this for the love so we fight and sacrifice everynight so we aint gon stumble and fall never waiting to see, a sign of defeat uh uh so we gon keep everyone moving their feet so bring back the beat and everybody sing it's not about...
Yeah yeah oo-oooh forget about the price tag
I guess it reminds us that it's Time to get less Materialistic!!! :) And GET REAL :D
